PUBLIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN
Hours per week: 40
Reports to the Library Director.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Schedules, supervises, and implements programming for the library, including young adult, family, and adult programs. Also, assist with identifying and pursuing grant monies. Provides support in the Outreach Program and in collection development and maintenance.
EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative only, not a complete list)
- Courteously assist patrons in the use of the library whether in person or via the phone.
- Assist director and outreach supervisor with grant applications.
- Assist/learn Outreach department processes and be able to cover if needed.
- Collaborate with youth services staff to maintain and generate needed services.
- Plan and present programs for teens, families, and adults.
- Help plan YS and Adult Summer Reading Programs; coordinate programs/schedules.
- Decorate & maintain displays, especially for promotion of programs.
- Compile statistical and other reports pertaining to services and programming.
- Promote services and programs to the public.
- Conduct tours.
- Cooperate with others / Assist superiors, co-workers & subordinates.
- Empty book return and check in library materials.
- Update and maintain the Bradford Memorial Library webpage and social media accounts.
- Other duties necessary for the efficient operation of the library.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the staff and general public. Must be able to type, operate a computer, and do simple arithmetic. Must be able to: push a loaded book cart weighing up to 250 pounds; move tables and puppet theater weighing up to 30 pounds; reach, bend, stoop, climb or squat to arrange materials on library shelves or to decorate area; use manually operated office tools and supplies (scissors, glue, stapler, etc.); communicate clearly and effectively; file and sort items in accordance with established procedures; perform repetitive tasks with speed and accuracy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or GED. College degree in education, English or related field. MLS strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to plan and present programs, knowledge of grant writing desired. An equivalent combination of training and experience which can fill these requirements may be considered.
HOURS: Full-time position: 40 hours/week. This person will work different hours depending on the week, but will often close the library at 7 pm. Must be available to work early evenings and some weekends.

PAY RANGE: Hourly wage – between $15.00-22.00/hour. Starting pay will be based on qualifications and experience.
